If you love something enough, let it go
As more time passes, I think about more questions. In all of Ava’s file it does not mention her ‘finding spot’. This is the place where the parent has abandoned their child so that they may be found. Because of different types of circumstances in China, parents abandon their child in hopes to better the circumstances. Most of you know of China’s one child policy in effort to help control the over population. If you are found out to have more than one child, the government can give you a hefty fine, you could lose your job and all benefits and health care can be taken from you. At the same time, it is illegal to relinquish your parental rights. In other words, put your child up for adoption.
It is not that the parent wants to give up their child. It is out of necessity. The mother usually hides and watches to make sure her little bundle is found. I can’t imagine the pain of leaving my child to be found by a stranger. All in hopes for a better future. It is hard to wrap our minds around this when in this wonderful country we can’t think of circumstances pushing us to this extreme.
Back to my sweet Ava. She was guessed to be about four months old when she was brought into the Social Welfare Institue. Meaning her mother kept her for a while. I am guessing she knew Ava was not well and was going to need heart surgery. Ava’s parents probably could not afford her surgery and held on to her as long as they could until they thought she needed help. I am actually glad of this being a possibility because it is somewhat of a reason for her parents letting her go. Ava will always have an emptiness about not knowing her birth parents. She won’t understand that they truly did what they believed to be the best for her. Until Ava is a mother, she will not be able to understand what her birth mother actually did. That if you love something enough, you let it go.
For I know the plans I have for you, “declares the Lord,” plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah29:11
